Metal Haus Gallery invites artists to submit work for XXXXXL, a group exhibition devoted to art that plays unapologetically with scale.

For this exhibition, we are looking for big, bold, massive artworks that transform the gallery and challenge the way viewers experience a familiar space. XXXXXL is an opportunity to let a few ambitious works command the room, creating an exhibition shaped by physical presence, proportion, and impact.

Because of the scale of the work, only three to five artworks are expected to be selected.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome large-scale work across painting, sculpture, fiber, mixed media, installation, and other visual-art practices. Representational and abstract work are equally encouraged.

There is no required minimum or maximum size. However, every artwork must be able to fit through the gallery’s entrance, which measures:

8 feet high × 3 feet wide

Artists are encouraged to think creatively about this constraint. Modular, sectional, rolled, folded, assembled-on-site, or otherwise adaptable works may be submitted, provided the artist clearly explains how the work will enter the gallery and be installed.

Scale alone will not determine selection. We are looking for work that uses size with intention and has the visual presence to activate the gallery.

Important Considerations

Before submitting, please confirm that:

  • The artwork can fit through an 8-foot × 3-foot doorway, either fully assembled or in separate components.

  • The work can be safely transported into the gallery.

  • Any assembly or installation requirements are clearly described in the application.

  • The artist can provide all specialized hardware or equipment required to exhibit the work.

  • The artwork will be available for the full duration of the exhibition.

Artists may be asked to participate in the delivery and installation of especially large, heavy, delicate, or complex work.

About the Exhibition

Metal Haus Gallery is an intimate home gallery in San Francisco. XXXXXL responds directly to the scale of the space by filling it with only a handful of oversized works.

Rather than fitting many objects into the gallery, this exhibition asks what happens when a few works are given the room to dominate, interrupt, and reshape it. Each selected artwork will become a major part of the exhibition’s architecture, changing how visitors move through and perceive the space.
