BLACKS & BLUES

CALL FOR ART

A focused palette. Endless possibilities.

Metal Haus Gallery invites submissions for Blacks & Blues, a group exhibition in San Francisco exploring shades of black and blue through color, texture, material, and form.

Works may focus entirely on shades of black, entirely on shades of blue, or explore both colors in combination. Existing artworks and proposals for new work are welcome.

Application Deadline: November 20, 2026

What We’re Looking For

Blacks and blues are the defining elements of this exhibition. From matte blacks and glossy ebony to midnight blue, electric cobalt, and pale washes, we’re interested in the range artists can achieve within this palette.

Consider how these colors interact, how their appearance shifts across materials, and how layering, light, and surface reveal subtle variations. Texture is especially welcome, whether built up in paint, woven into fiber, captured through photography, or expressed in sculptural forms.

Both representational and abstract approaches are welcome. There is no required subject matter. We’re looking for a thoughtful use of the palette, exceptional craft, and a distinct artistic perspective.

Existing Artwork

We welcome submissions across all media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, fiber, photography, and mixed media. Existing works should have been created within the past five years.

Please include:

  • Clear images of the artwork, including detail views where helpful.

  • Title, year, materials, dimensions, and retail price.

  • A brief description of the work and your approach to the palette.

  • Any special display or installation requirements.

Proposals for New Work

We welcome proposals for new work on canvas or birch panel. Metal Haus Gallery will provide the surface to selected artists, with size and specifications agreed upon during the selection process.

Please include:

  • A sketch, drawing, or digital mockup.

  • A description of your concept, materials, and approach to the palette.

  • Your preferred surface and proposed dimensions.

  • An anticipated retail price and completion timeline.

  • Examples of related work that help illustrate your approach.
