SF OPEN STUDIOS

x SABIN FILIP

OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 5-9 PM
ON VIEW: AUGUST 20 - OCTOBER 3, 2026

Metal Haus Gallery is pleased to host artist Sabin Filip for the 2026 San Francisco Open Studios, presented by ArtSpan.

Join us throughout the weekend to experience Filip’s Spring Symphony

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artist, learn more about his process, and explore a selection of available work inspired by nature, memory, and the shifting landscapes of California.

Spring Symphony is a celebration of the wild California beauty that blooms during the short window of spring along the coast near San Francisco. It is a glimpse of time that encompasses a fleeting moment of vibrant color before the flora begins to yellow beneath the intensity of the California sun.

The composition’s frenetic and free energy captures the musicality of blossoms dancing among soft spring breezes, the spray of the ocean drifting through sea mist, the exhilaration of nature awakening from its winter slumber, and the boundless joie de vivre such a sight elicits.

I hope to inspire viewers to pause within the scene and recall what spring feels like in the body and through the senses.”

SPRING SYMPHONY

Sabin Filip is a Romanian-born artist who visually translates the emotional energy of places, spaces, and memories. His paintings walk the line between figurative and abstraction, built through layers of palette-knife marks, gestural brushwork, and symbolic color across large canvases.

His early background in art conservation and preservation influences his interest in the physical life of materials, resulting in a practice that moves freely across mediums. Guided by nostalgia and self-reflection, Filip’s unrestrained markmaking and layered textures evoke the rhythms of how one moves—both physically and emotionally—through life.

Filip’s paintings are symphonies of resilience and joy. Conversations, journeys, memories, and reflections become abstract compositions to be felt, explored, and interpreted anew. Each piece invites the viewer to discover their own poetry within the work.

Sabin Filip’s work can be found in collections in the United States and abroad.
