About the Artwork
Emoción is a meditation on distance, memory, and digital intimacy. Inspired by a dream of Cristina Brcek’s grandmother—felt not through image, but through texture and warmth—this artwork explores the longing to embrace a loved one separated by borders, time, and screens.
Built from layers of hand-drawn charcoal gestures, digital collage, and AI-aided recomposition, Emoción captures the liminal space between presence and absence. Soft gradients become warmth; fragmented marks become interference; patterns of light evoke a connection that lives entirely online. It is both a dreamscape and a love letter, honoring the emotional depth of a bond sustained across distance.
About the Artist
Cristina Brcek is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice bridges analog mark-making with digital reassembly. Rooted in emotional memory and shaped by diasporic experience, her work often navigates themes of familial distance, intergenerational longing, and the way technology mediates connection.
Her process begins with raw sensation—using charcoal to intuitively express an emotion before words or form define it. Through digital layering and AI intervention, she reinterprets these gestures into visual languages that hold emotional truth. Brcek’s work is at once deeply personal and universally resonant, inviting viewers to recognize their own reflections in the space between presence and absence.
She currently lives and works in the United States, while her family remains across national borders.
